How to Write a Research Paper

July 27th, 2009 admin No comments

Looking for answers on how to write a research paper? Here are some great tips and tricks when writing your research paper. First step – don’t fret! It will not be the end of the world, you are not being required to read every single article ever written on your subject, you are required to find information that allows you to better understand your topic and develop awareness of the different information available or developed in the years.

Many colleges do not require that you use more than seven or eight sources for a short research paper, and usually not more than thirty sources for larger research papers. A great clue, you should not have more than three sources per page, and never more quotes than you have written words of your own. When you write your research paper always, try to restate the research in your own words rather than using quotes. Quotes are primarily designed to share information that is unusually well written, or hard to explain in other terms.

Now that the research is a little less scary, start writing as soon as you start collecting information, this will allow you to quickly refer back to the information you gathered while writing a research paper. It is unlikely that you will only use a source once, consider in putting it into the MS Word citation generator (or another generator) for easy use as you write. Your formatting will demonstrate an attention to detail that can earn you extra points when you submit your paper.

Colleges and universities are strict with the in-text citations and references because of the need to prevent plagiarism, so it is essential that your research paper demonstrate the most current requirements of your school’s formatting style. Your research and formatting will be top-notch and get you the grade you deserve if you are careful and persistence with your writing.
