Writing an admission essay is something you will need to be able to do to complete your education. You may be trying to get into college for the first time, a special college program, or a higher degree program. Any of these decisions require that you write an admission essay that highlights why you should be selected into the program. This will include accomplishments and successes; however, it should not sound like a brag sheet.
You should highlight a particular event that describes who you are and where you are going in the world. Ambitions are important things for your admissions essay because they describe what type of person you are, and why you are trying to become a part of the program you are applying for with the admission essay. This should be something written from your perspective and not be exclusively positive in light. We are all human, we all make mistakes, and mistakes often define who we are and the decisions we make to learn more. Most people reviewing admissions essays are looking for two primary things – are you a real person, do you demonstrate the traits they are looking for, and do you sound like you feel and think what you have written
As you write your admission essay, consider what you might have learned in years previous that come from a mistake you made. This mistake does not have to be huge and embarrassing, unless that was something that defined you. Your essay can demonstrate how this mistake lead you to deciding to pursue your current path, why the mistake made you a better, and possibly even why you would like others to learn the lessons you learned from your mistake.
